Ant & Bee are replicas of the engines used in the the Laxey mines some 1500ft below ground level. The mines employedover 600 miners at its peak producing lead, copper, silver and zinc till the mines closed in 1929. In 1965 the government bought the site and restoration began until 1989 it was then put under the control of Manx National Heritage Trust. Tourists now come to the mines were they are still running to this day.
